This plateau fence lizard (Sceloporus tristichus) was hiding from the hot midday sun in the Colorado mountains.
This is one of a number of Lesser Goldfinches that were raiding some wild sunflowers in the Colorado mountains. They were fearless, but moved so quickly it was difficult to get a good picture.
This prairie dog was enjoying the sunshine while eating, and didn’t care that we were close by observing.

This mother mallard was determined to stay on her nest, which made it easy to get good photos. The evening light filtered through the trees on the shore nearby made for this soft beautiful light.
Dragonflies have fascinated me for a long time, along with other Odonates (dragonflies and damselflies). This brightly colored insect is a Green Darner, one of the larger common species in the Midwest. This particular dragonfly was happy to sit still with the camera only inches away because the wind was quite strong that day.
These calves were curious how the bright colored objects that appeared on the fence tasted. They finally gave up after a lot of squeeky licking.
